Acting Examinations

Entry Level, Grade 1 to Grade 8

Acting Exam participants enhance their vocal, physical, and interpretive abilities as they immerse themselves in characters and dissect the context of dramatic texts. In addition to delivering genuine performances of selected scenes, they develop insights into the background and characters within them.  Progressing through a range of levels, learners hone skills in articulation, projection, expression and character development. At higher grades they also learn about the impact of influential theatre practitioners like Stanislavski and cultivate a sensitive understanding of subtext.

Musical Theatre Examinations

Entry Level, Grade 1 to Grade 8

In Musical Theatre tuition, learners enhance their acting through song ability. They utilise vocal techniques to convey the appropriate emotions and immerse themselves in the material to create a thoughtful rendition of the song.

As they advance through the levels, learners delve into character development through monologues or duologues, performed in character as a prelude to their songs. They also broaden their knowledge of musical theatre history by performing songs from various eras and researching the works and impact of a particular composer or lyricist.

Speaking Verse and Prose Examinations

Entry Level, Grade 1 to Grade 8

Within the Speaking Verse and Prose preparation, learners cultivate a range of skills, encompassing clear speech, effective voice projection, memory recall, and a deep appreciation for poetry and prose that complements their studies in English literature.

Advancing through the levels, learners actively engage with the texts, responding to them creatively, and employing gestures and facial expressions to captivate their audience.

Students pursuing their Level Three grades delve into sonnets, look into the life and works of William Shakespeare and explore the contributions of other writers whose works they are interpreting.

Reading For Performance Examinations

Entry Level, Grade 1 to Grade 8

Reading for Performance exams require learners to delve into the art of portraying a book in a live setting. They craft performances centring on themes, curate texts, and weave them together into a captivating recital by blending in their own narrative. Their performances are dynamic and creative, aiming to captivate the audience with expressive movements and vocals that mirror the contrasting themes of the text.

At Level Three, students hone their research skills to prepare for their recitals and demonstrate their ability to quickly respond to and interpret texts as they take part in a sight-reading task during the exam.
